Ulla Severin charms as the scheming maid Despina, with a strong Una Donna In Quindici Anni. As her sister Dorabella Maria Högland is just as effective, with her vocal colour contrasting well with Biel's and her stage presence just as natural. First and foremost, Ann Christine Biel is a radiant and vocally agile Fiordiligi. Staging wise, it is all very natural and witty, impressive considering Drottningholm's tiny stage. While giving the big arias and end-of act ensembles their essential energy, Soave Sia Il Vento, Il Core Vi Dono and the recitatives show some sensitive conducting as well. Arnold Ostmann conducts with a sure hand, and the orchestra play stylishly under him. Mozart's music is wonderful and some of his best. The camera work is focused, the sound is generally good and the picture quality further adds to the charm of the production values. It is a visually sumptuous affair, with traditional stylised sets and beautiful-looking costumes. I may be biased as I love Cosi Fan Tutte, it is Mozart's most psychologically complex story-wise, it is witty and sparkling with the comedy and has some of Mozart's most beautiful music in Soave Sia Il Vento and Il Core Vi Dono.
Although I love the 1989, 2000, 1992 productions and the Ponnelle film, I have to say yes.
